Village Green Committee
The Village Green Committee was formed for a two fold purpose:
(1) to act as a point of coordination for the Garden Club, the Civic Association, the Tree Board, the Businessmen’s Association and the
City Council; and (2) to undertake projects, provide care and maintenance and preserve our public green spaces. These spaces include Trolley Park, the various entry points and attendant plantings, and other green common areas within our city. The responsibility for the care of our various gardens is managed by the Village Green Committee, but performed by its respective members.

The North Arlington garden area is cared for by the Businessmen’s Association in the person of Tom Stamm. The Businessmen’s Association also engages in various other beautification projects notably litter clean up along Dixie Highway. The South Arlington garden area is maintained by Sue and Greg Bennings. |
The water for this area is provided by the Dickman family. The St. James planter is maintained by the Warren Heist family. The Park Road Devou planter is maintained by Susan Brunner. The Audubon/Park Rd. triangle is maintained by Mary Anne Weiss and watered by Patty Coslett.
In addition, there are various stone planters throughout the city which are maintained by Sally Soderlund, Jean King, Louise Wells, Pam Spoor, and Dave Schlothauer. Trolley Park is divided into various regions and is maintained by Diane Geiger, Helen Heil, Scott Smith and Pam Spoor.

The City Council Parks and Recreation Committee attends each of our meetings and contributes advice and fiscal assistance. This committee consists of Monty O’Hara, Don Catchen and Chris Sudbrink. Michael Hellmann attends and advises in his capacity as mayor. Also attending is a representative from the Garden Club, Carol Bethel, from the Civic Association, Amy Lantz, from the Tree Board , Pam Spoor and from the Businessmen’s Association, Leo Stamm. In addition, the committee includes Will Korte, Sue Bennings, , Millie Fangman, Helen Heil and Diane Geiger.

All of the organizations also provide fiscal assistance to maintain and improve our green spaces. The Garden Club has generously provided funds for the brick gathering circle in Trolley Park, the various stone planters at our entry ways, the spring plantings and many other ventures of our committee. The Civic Association has contributed to the fountain and playground in Trolley Park. The City Council provides a budget for the maintenance of the park areas. This budget is allocated among maintenance, capital assets (such as benches, trash receptacles) plantings, electric, irrigation, water and new projects. For example, a portion of this year’s budget will go toward a new drinking fountain in Trolley Park. |
The Village Green Committee meets on the third Monday of every month at 7:00pm at the City Building. We are always seeking volunteers to assist with the maintenance and beautification of our green spaces. |
 |
Currently, we would like to find people willing to assist in the clearing, repairing and maintenance of the old street car walkways. Anyone interested in participating can contact the committee through Pam Spoor at villagegreen@phcahub.org or through the City Clerk’s office at cityofparkhills@insightbb.com.

Park Hills is an exceptionally beautiful area. It is the goal of the Village Green Committee to make our public green spaces beautiful, keep them maintained and thereby contribute to the charm and quality of our community. |
